Disease area and mode of action as criteria to assign a default occupational exposure limit

Milica Glogovac et al.

Summary: The early stages of drug research face challenges in calculating the occupational exposure limit (OEL) of newly synthesized small molecule drug candidates due to a lack of toxicological data. This study evaluated 860 drug substances (DS) and revealed that a default OEL of 10 µg/m³ is reasonably safe for small molecule DCs without specific data. Grouping DSs by disease area (DA) and mode of action (MoA) could be an effective strategy for assessing data-poor compounds.
