Strain engineering for C2N/Janus monochalcogenides van der Waals heterostructures: Potential applications for photocatalytic water splitting

Zhuang Ma et al.

Summary: A type-II van der Waals heterostructure composed of two-dimensional Janus monochalcogenides and C2N has been designed for photocatalytic water splitting. Under biaxial strain, the band alignment of the heterostructures can transition from type-I to type-II, with C2N/In2SeTe showing a unique type-II band alignment. The results suggest that C2N/In2SSe and C2N/In2SeTe vdW heterostructures are more suitable for photocatalytic water splitting under strain.

A first-principles investigation of Janus MoSSe as a catalyst for photocatalytic water-splitting

Xueling Lei et al.

Summary: The Janus MoSSe monolayer has been proposed as a photocatalyst for water splitting, but the theoretical analysis suggests it may not be efficient due to the ease of producing H-2 on the Se surface compared to the difficulty of producing O-2 on the S surface.

Investigation on tunable electronic properties of semiconducting graphene induced by boron and sulfur doping

Yongfeng Qu et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the doping effect of boron and sulfur atoms on the electronic and adsorption properties of graphene through density functional theory simulations. The results show that the ratio of B and S atom doping determines the type of conductivity exhibited by graphene, with a ratio less than 2 resulting in n-type and higher ratios leading to p-type conductivity. Additionally, the role of vacancy defects in graphene and the transformation behavior from p to n-type induced by increasing S atom doping are highlighted.

Electro-optical and mechanical properties of Zinc antimonide (ZnSb) monolayer and bilayer: A first-principles study

A. Bafekry et al.

Summary: The latest study on ZnSb monolayer prompted research on its structural, magnetic, electronic/optical, and mechanical features using density functional theory (DFT) simulations. Results showed that the monolayer is a ferromagnetic metal while the bilayer is a non-magnetic indirect band gap semiconductor. Absorption peaks in the infrared and visible range confirmed light absorbance in both structures. The mechanical response of the monolayer was enhanced by layer-layer chemical bonding in the bilayer.
