Systems Barriers to Assessment and Treatment of COVID-19 Positive Patients at the End of Life

Meera Pahuja et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic is changing how expert palliative care is delivered, with hospital-based interventions inadvertently creating barriers for routine palliative interventions. The challenges include isolation of patients, limitations on visitors, and changes in healthcare provider assessment, requiring real-time solutions to adapt and continue delivering quality care.

Nurses' barriers to caring for patients with COVID-19: a qualitative systematic review

Jee Young Joo et al.

Summary: This qualitative systematic review aimed to identify and synthesize frontline nurses' experiences and challenges in caring for patients with COVID-19 in hospitals. The study identified five barriers faced by hospital-based nurses, including limited information about COVID-19, unpredictable tasks, insufficient support, concerns about family, and emotional and psychological stress. Overcoming these barriers is essential to improve nurses' experiences and the quality of care provided to patients with COVID-19.

The threat of COVID-19 and its influence on nursing staff burnout

Guadalupe Manzano Garcia et al.

Summary: The study found that the perceived threat of COVID-19 has an impact on nurses' burnout levels and plays an important role in moderating the relationship between social support at work and burnout. Hospitals are advised to implement strategies to ensure that health emergency situations are not perceived as threats, while maintaining clear, fluid, and regular communication with nursing staff.

Use of a search summary table to improve systematic review search methods, results, and efficiency

Alison C. Bethel et al.

Summary: Systematic reviews are comprehensive, transparent, and reproducible in bringing together evidence to answer research questions, but finer details of search results are typically not reported. This case study presents a search summary table that can be used in future systematic reviews to improve reporting of search results. Publishing a search summary table in all systematic reviews would help in determining which databases to search for which type of review and provide evidence for future searching and search methods research.
