Intercalation of organic molecules, particularly PVP, enhances the lithium and sodium storage capacity of multilayer Ti3C2Tx. This provides a promising approach to expand the potential applications of this material in advanced energy storage systems.
In this work, three kinds of organic molecule DMSO, CTAB, and PVP intercalated multilayer Ti3C2Tx were successfully prepared by a facile aqueous adsorption procedure. The intercalated Ti3C2Tx possessed larger interlayer spacing than pure Ti3C2Tx. The lithium storage capacity of multilayer Ti3C2Tx was enhanced. Among the three kinds of organic molecules, PVP was proved to be the best choice. PVP-Ti3C2Tx exhibited a discharge capacity of 375 mAh/g at 50 mA/g and a capacity of 138 mAh/g was retained after 1000 cycles at 1000 mA/g, which showed a 68% increase compared to Ti3C2Tx. Moreover, the sodium storage ability of multilayer Ti3C2Tx was also enhanced by CTAB and PVP intercalation. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of organic molecule intercalation to enhance the electrochemical storage capacity of multilayer Ti3C2Tx for Li/Na ions and thus provide a facile approach to expand the potential application of multilayer Ti3C2Tx material for advanced energy storage systems.
