Postbuckling analysis of hydrostatic pressurized FGM microsized shells including strain gradient and stress-driven nonlocal effects

Xiaohui Yang et al.

Summary: This study examines the size-dependent nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behavior of microsized shells made of functionally graded material (FGM) under hydrostatic pressure using the theory of nonlocal strain gradient elasticity. The incorporation of nonlocality and strain gradient micro-size dependency into a shell theory results in a more comprehensive model with refined distribution of shear deformation. The Mori-Tanaka homogenization scheme is used to estimate effective material properties of FGM nanoshells, and perturbation-based solving process is employed to extract explicit expressions for stability paths of hydrostatic pressurized FGM microsized shells with nonlocal strain gradient effects.

Couple stress-based dynamic stability analysis of functionally graded composite truncated conical microshells with magnetostrictive facesheets embedded within nonlinear viscoelastic foundations

Lingjiao Fan et al.

Summary: This paper examines the size-dependent dynamic stability of axially loaded functionally graded composite truncated conical microshells, considering magnetostrictive facesheets and nonlinear viscoelastic foundations. The study reveals that the significance of couple stress type of size dependency on frequency increases from prebuckling to postbuckling domain, while an increase in material gradient index decreases its importance. Additionally, applying positive and negative magnetic fields to the microshells results in frequency changes at specific axial load values in prebuckling and postbuckling domains.

Isogeometric nonlinear oscillations of nonlocal strain gradient PFGM micro/nano-plates via NURBS-based formulation

Fan Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the size-dependent analysis of the geometrically nonlinear vibration response of micro/nano-plates made of porous functionally graded material (PFGM) with and without a central cutout, considering nonlocality and strain gradient size dependencies. It is found that the increase in nonlinear frequency due to the strain gradient size effect is greater than the reduction caused by nonlocality. Additionally, there is a specific length to thickness ratio value at which the nonlocal strain gradient frequency ratio becomes minimum, and this value increases with the porosity index of PFGM micro/nano-plates.

Buckling and postbuckling response of nonlocal strain gradient porous functionally graded micro/nano-plates via NURBS-based isogeometric analysis

Fan Fan et al.

Summary: The study shows that considering geometric nonlinearity and moving to deeper part of the postbuckling regime reduces the significance of both nonlocality and strain gradient size dependencies. Additionally, increasing the material property gradient index results in an enhancement of nonlocal and strain gradient size effects, especially in the deeper part of the postbuckling domain. Moreover, the study demonstrates that the porosity index has a negligible influence on the significance of size dependencies for a PFGM micro/nano-plate, regardless of the boundary conditions.

Summary: The objective of this study is to predict the size-dependent dynamic stability of truncated conical microshells made of functionally graded material integrated with magnetostrictive facesheets.
