Anticonvulsant, Anxiolytic and Antidepressant Properties of the β-caryophyllene in Swiss Mice: Involvement of Benzodiazepine-GABAAergic, Serotonergic and Nitrergic Systems

George L. da Silva Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anxiolytic behavioral effect of beta-caryophyllene (beta-CBP) in female Swiss mice and found that its neuropharmacological activities may involve benzodiazepine/GABAergic receptors and inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis, providing additional support in understanding the neuromolecular mechanisms underlying the anxiolytic, antidepressant and anticonvulsive properties of beta-CBP.

Effect of acute and subchronic administration of (R)-WIN55,212-2 induced neuroprotection and anti inflammatory actions in rat retina: CB1 and CB2 receptor involvement

Dimitris Spyridakos et al.

Summary: The synthetic cannabinoid (R)-WIN55,212-2 has been found to have neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties in the retina, likely through the activation of CB2 receptors. Subchronic administration also resulted in downregulation of CB1 receptors and attenuation of neuroprotection of amacrine cells.

A- and D-type potassium currents regulate axonal action potential repolarization in midbrain dopamine neurons

Yujie Xiao et al.

Summary: The study found that axons of midbrain dopamine neurons have both A-current and D-current, which are predominantly mediated by Kv1.4 and Kv1.2 subunits, respectively. Blocking these currents can prolong the duration of axonal action potentials significantly. Therefore, these axonal Kv channels could potentially be targeted for treating brain disorders with abnormal dopamine release.

Characterization of Subtype Selective Cannabinoid CB2 Receptor Agonists as Potential Anti-Inflammatory Agents

Summary: Testing four ABK5 derivatives revealed that ABK5-1 and ABK5-2 have higher affinity and efficacy as CB2-selective agonists, while maintaining subtype selectivity. These compounds showed potential for treating inflammation with stronger effects observed in ABK5-1.
