Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Isoliquiritigenin Reverses Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition Through Modulation of the TGF-β/Smad Signaling Pathway in Endometrial Cancer

Hsin-Yuan Chen et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the anti-metastatic potential of ISL on endometrial cancer by reversing EMT through targeting the TGF-beta/Smad signaling pathway. Results from in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that ISL efficiently inhibited cell migration, reduced metastasis, and altered the expression of related proteins.

Tumor suppressor p53: Biology, signaling pathways, and therapeutic targeting

Liz J. Hernandez Borrero et al.

Summary: TP53 is the most commonly mutated gene in human cancer with a long history in cancer biology and oncology. Despite advances in understanding the biology and signaling in the p53 pathway, there are still challenges in clinical translation, especially in therapeutic development related to wild-type or mutant p53 activities.

Perspectives on natural compounds in chemoprevention and treatment of cancer: an update with new promising compounds

Abedul Haque et al.

Summary: Although cancer is the second deadliest disease worldwide, recent advances in precision treatments are promising. However, challenges remain due to the heterogeneity and mutational burdens of cancer cells. Chemoprevention, especially with natural dietary compounds, is considered a rational and appealing strategy to prevent carcinogenesis, particularly in high-risk populations.
