Resetting FLOWERING LOCUS C Expression After Vernalization Is Just Activation in the Early Embryo by a Different Name

E. Jean Finnegan et al.

Summary: The reproductive success of many plants depends on their ability to respond appropriately to environmental cues, with winter cold triggering the transition from vegetative to reproductive growth in annual Brassicaceae plants by downregulating the floral repressor FLC. This process involves two stages of FLC repression, initiation and maintenance, distinguished by different chromatin states at the FLC locus, with H3K27me3 playing a crucial role in spreading repression. The release of FLC repression in the next generation, known as resetting, allows vernalized plants' progeny to respond to winter, challenging previous assumptions about the activation of FLC expression in plants that have not experienced winter cold.

Characterization of Mungbean CONSTANS-LIKE Genes and Functional Analysis of CONSTANS-LIKE 2 in the Regulation of Flowering Time in Arabidopsis

Chenyang Liu et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized 14 VrCOL genes in mungbean, analyzed their structural features and expression patterns. The expression patterns of VrCOL genes varied significantly under long-day and short-day conditions, with VrCOL2 overexpression accelerating flowering in Arabidopsis under short-day conditions.

Quantitative Trait Locus Mapping and Identification of Candidate Genes Controlling Flowering Time in Brassica napus L.

Yu Xu et al.

Summary: By utilizing SSR and SLAF-seq technologies, this study successfully mapped QTLs for flowering time in rapeseed and identified three target intervals. A total of 186 genes with genetic variations, including 14 related to flowering time pathways, were found in these intervals. Development of six InDel markers linked to flowering time indicates the credibility of the results for further genetic studies in Brassica napus L.

Improved Plant Nitrate Status Involves in Flowering Induction by Extended Photoperiod

Jia Yuan Ye et al.

Summary: The floral transition stage is crucial for plant populations, and this study shows that an extended photoperiod can induce early flowering in Arabidopsis plants. The upregulation of root nitrate uptake during extended photoperiods contributes to early flowering, while optimal nitrate levels are important for photoperiodic flowering responses.
