Engineering disease resistant plants through CRISPR-Cas9 technology

Summary: Plants are vulnerable to phytopathogens, which can cause significant economic losses and threats to global food safety. Plant immune system has two layers of defense mechanisms, PTI and ETI, while CRISPR-Cas9 technology has revolutionized genome editing for developing pathogen-resistant plants. This review summarizes the complexities of plant immune system, the use of CRISPR-Cas9 for editing plant immune components, and discusses the limitations and future prospects of this technology.
