Nanomagnetic Actuation of Hybrid Stents for Hyperthermia Treatment of Hollow Organ Tumors

Summary: This study describes a magnetic nanotechnology that uses polymer hybrid stents with incorporated magnetic nanoparticles for hyperthermia treatment of hollow organ tumors. The results demonstrate that the heating efficiency of stent filaments increases with frequency and magnetic field amplitude, but saturates at a certain level. Immobilization of MNP significantly influences heating efficiency. Nanomagnetic actuation of hybrid stents shows promise for cancer treatment of hollow organ tumors.

The properties of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) play a crucial role in determining the sensitivity and resolution of MPI. Challenges lie in translating MPI imaging into clinical applications and overcoming existing obstacles.

USPIOs as Targeted Contrast Agents in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Summary: This review focuses on the diagnostic use of ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with a specific emphasis on ferumoxytol. Recent findings suggest that ferumoxytol, a negatively charged USPIO, can be used for tracking and characterizing macrophage-infiltrated cardiovascular structures. The incorporation of ferumoxytol's iron core by macrophages in inflammatory tissues leads to hypointense areas on T2 and T2* MRI due to alteration of magnetic susceptibility. The paper also discusses the potential specificity of ferumoxytol interactions with macrophage subtypes and its positive safety profile in patients with impaired renal function for targeted clinical imaging.
