Preparation, characterization, and 3D printing verification of chitosan/halloysite nanotubes/tea polyphenol nanocomposite films

Yihao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan/halloysite nanotubes/tea polyphenol (CS/HNTs/TP) nanocomposite films were prepared and characterized. The optimal C6H4-TP10 film showed improved water vapor barrier property, decreased swelling degree and water solubility, and exhibited good antioxidant and antibacterial capacities. The study demonstrates a simple approach to construct promising natural antioxidants and antibacterial food packaging.

Nonswelling injectable chitosan hydrogel via UV crosslinking induced hydrophobic effect for minimally invasive tissue engineering

Haichang Ding et al.

Summary: A new nonswelling pentenyl chitosan hydrogel was developed via UV crosslinking, which maintains a nonswelling state at biological temperature. The hydrogel showed no cytotoxicity in vitro and demonstrated minimal adverse effects in a rat model. The injectable and UV crosslinkable chitosan hydrogel holds potential applications in smart biomaterials and minimally invasive tissue engineering.

Bio-studies of scaffolds based on chitosan/tannic acid cross-linked by glyoxal

B. Kaczmarek-Szczepanska et al.

Summary: The study investigated the safety and compatibility of chitosan/tannic acid cross-linked scaffolds for medical applications through bio-studies. The results indicated that glyoxal is a safe cross-linker for chitosan/tannic acid mixtures, with nonhemolytic properties and high metabolic activity observed in cells cultured on the scaffolds. These findings suggest potential use of the proposed materials as wound dressings in medical applications.

Design of Sodium Alginate/Gelatin-Based Emulsion Film Fused with Polylactide Microparticles Charged with Plant Extract

Weronika Prus-Walendziak et al.

Summary: This study aimed to design emulsion films based on sodium alginate, gelatin, and glycerol, and modify them with the addition of lipids; the addition of polylactide (PLA) microparticles with Calendula officinalis flower extract resulted in improved skin condition after application, suggesting potential for designing new cosmetic forms.

New insights into the mechanism of photodegradation of chitosan

Pierre-Olivier Bussiere et al.

Summary: Chitosan films were subjected to accelerated artificial weathering in the presence of oxygen, resulting in changes in chemical structure, formation of gluconolactone derivatives, detection of low molecular weight photoproducts, occurrence of crosslinking reactions, and variations in mechanical and surface properties. These changes were observed and correlated at molecular scale, showing a reduction in macroscopic properties.
