Frustrated tunneling ionization in strong circularly polarized two-color laser fields

Chuanpeng Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, frustrated tunneling ionization (FTI) in counter-rotating and co-rotating circularly polarized two-color (CPTC) laser fields was investigated using a classical electron ensemble method. It was found that the FTI probability is highly dependent on the relative helicity and field amplitude ratio of the two-color laser fields. Additionally, it was observed that recollision-assisted recapture plays a crucial role for FTI in the CPTC laser fields, with the maximal FTI probability appearing at different field amplitude ratios for counter-rotating and co-rotating CPTC laser fields. Moreover, controlling the angular momentum of the Rydberg state from FTI events was shown to be possible by changing the field amplitude ratio in counter-rotating CPTC laser fields, while it remained nearly unchanged in co-rotating CPTC laser fields.

Frustrated ionization of atoms in the multiphoton regime

Summary: The theory formulates a semiclassical analytic approach to describe the excitation of atomic Rydberg states by intense laser radiation in the multiphoton limit of ionization. By separating the electron motion in the laser field and Coulomb field of the nucleus, it allows for the calculation of classical cut-off positions in the distribution of excited atoms in principal and orbital quantum numbers, and the identification of the effects of quantum interference.
