EphA4 Obstructs Spinal Cord Neuron Regeneration by Promoting Excessive Activation of Astrocytes

Xiaogang Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that EphA4 regulates astrocyte function in neuronal regeneration after spinal cord injury by binding with ephrin-B on the surface of astrocytes, affecting the secretion of neurotrophic factors, adhesion molecules, inflammatory factors, and glial scar formation, subsequently influencing neurite outgrowth and regeneration.

Migrating Schwann cells direct axon regeneration within the peripheral nerve bridge

Qing Min et al.

Summary: Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system have the ability to promote repair of various tissues, including nerve gaps, skin wounds, digit tips, and tooth regeneration. They are highly motile, secrete signaling molecules, attract macrophages, support neuronal survival, promote axonal regrowth, and interact with other cell types in the regeneration process. The migration of Schwann cells is essential for successful tissue repair, especially in cases of peripheral nerve transection injuries where the cells form cords to guide axon regeneration. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of Schwann cell migration may lead to new therapeutic strategies for peripheral nerve repair.

Cellular response to spinal cord injury in regenerative and non-regenerative stages in Xenopus laevis

Gabriela Edwards-Faret et al.

Summary: The cellular response to spinal cord injury in regenerative and non-regenerative stages differs significantly between the two stages. Key features of the regenerative response include activation of NSPCs, massive proliferation, and differentiation into neurons for spinal cord reconstruction. Additionally, regenerative stages show no glial scar formation, while non-regenerative stages form a transient glial scar-like structure.

Simultaneous binding of Guidance Cues NET1 and RGM blocks extracellular NEO1 signaling

Ross A. Robinson et al.

Summary: The study reveals that Neogenin (NEO1) can be simultaneously affected by both Netrin-1 (NET1) and repulsive guidance molecule (RGM) ligands, forming a ternary NEO1-NET1-RGM complex that triggers reciprocal silencing of downstream signaling. This complex, existing in the cell membrane as a trimer-of-trimers super-assembly, inhibits cell growth and migration by preventing the formation of signaling-compatible complexes and clustering of NEO1 ectodomains.

EphB2 knockdown decreases the formation of astroglial-fibrotic scars to promote nerve regeneration after spinal cord injury in rats

Jian Wu et al.

Summary: Targeting EphB2 can effectively inhibit the formation of astroglial-fibrotic scars at the beginning of SCI, promoting nerve regeneration.
