Hypergastrinemia is associated with an increased risk of gastric adenocarcinoma with proximal location: A prospective population-based nested case-control study

Eivind Ness-Jensen et al.

Summary: The study conducted in Norway revealed that hypergastrinemia is associated with an increased risk of developing gastric adenocarcinoma, especially in the proximal stomach and intestinal histological type. However, there was no significant association found for gastric adenocarcinoma with distal location and diffuse histological type.

Changing biological behaviour of NETs during the evolution of the disease: progress on progression

Krystallenia Alexandraki et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been an improvement in the management and outcomes of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), particularly pancreatic NENs, which have shown increased aggressiveness reflected by an increase in the Ki-67 labelling index. A systematic review identified seven studies confirming cases with an increase in Ki-67 during follow-up. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to the switch to a more aggressive biological phenotype in advanced NENs have yet to be addressed by current studies.

EGF and BMPs Govern Differentiation and Patterning in Human Gastric Glands

Sarah Woelffling et al.

Summary: The study identified signals inducing differentiation of surface mucus-, zymogen-, and gastric acid-producing cells using gastric glands as a model. Epidermal growth factor was shown to be the major fate determinant distinguishing different cell types in human gastric glands. This finding provides insights into the differentiation and patterning of human tissue and the signaling microenvironment in the gastric glands.

Association between proton pump inhibitor use and gastric cancer: a population-based cohort study using two different types of nationwide databases in Korea

Seung In Seo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use and gastric cancer in a high-risk region like Korea. The results showed that PPI use was associated with an increased incidence of gastric cancer, regardless of Helicobacter pylori eradication status. Long-term use of PPI should be approached with caution in high-risk regions for gastric cancer.

Disappearance of Gastric Hyperplastic Polyps after the Discontinuation of Proton Pump Inhibitor in a Patient with Liver Cirrhosis

Kengo Yasugi et al.

Summary: A rare case of gastric hyperplastic polyps disappeared after discontinuation of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment. The patient's polyps were induced by hypergastrinemia from the PPI, which were completely resolved after stopping PPI and using rebamipide.
