Horndeski stars

Juan Barranco et al.

Summary: This study establishes the existence of time-dependent solitons in a modified gravity framework, characterized by finite energy configurations with a single continuous parameter. As the central field amplitude increases, the theory becomes strongly coupled and model-dependent. Quantum corrections do not affect the existence and properties of these solutions.

Two-scalar Bose-Einstein condensates: from stars to galaxies

Huai-Ke Guo et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the properties of Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) systems consisting of two scalars at stellar and galactic scales. It shows that a repulsive interaction between two scalars at stellar scales can stabilize the BEC system, leading to potential gravitational wave signals. At galactic scales, two-scalar BECs can address scaling problems.

Gravitational wave spectra from oscillon formation after inflation

Takashi Hiramatsu et al.

Summary: Through numerical simulations and analysis of potential types, we find a universal feature in the shape and amplitude of emitted gravitational waves after inflation, as well as differences in the gravitational wave spectrum between two families of potentials. The number density and properties of the produced oscillons vary for each potential type. The growth rate of scalar perturbations and oscillon formation time are influenced by the small-field shape of the potential, while macroscopic properties of oscillons depend on the large-field shape.

On the linear stability of l-boson stars with respect to radial perturbations

Miguel Alcubierre et al.

Summary: This article studies the linear stability of l-boson stars with time-dependent, radial perturbations, showing the existence of stable configurations for each fixed value of the angular momentum number l, as well as unstable configurations. These results are qualitatively similar to stability results of standard boson stars with l = 0, and suggest the existence of new stable configurations that are more massive and compact than usual boson stars.

Different types of bosonic stars exhibit different behaviors in terms of stability and the ability to imitate black hole characteristics, with some solutions showing potential to reproduce the ISCO of a Schwarzschild BH.

Rotating boson stars using finite differences and global Newton methods

Santiago Ontanon et al.

Summary: This study investigates rotating boson star data for numerical relativity, generating seven data sets characterized by different rotation azimuthal integers using a Cartesian grid and global Newton methods. The results accurately converge with respect to resolution size and boundary extension, enabling precise calculation of global parameters such as Komar masses and angular momenta. Additionally, the study reveals both consistent results with previous literature for rotation integers [0, 2] and new findings for rotation integers l > 2, emphasizing the importance of regularization in curvilinear-based numerical relativity.

A stabilization mechanism for excited fermion-boson stars

Fabrizio Di Giovanni et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the nonlinear stability and characteristics of excited fermion-boson stars in spherical symmetry. Contrary to purely boson stars in the excited state, a cooperative stabilization mechanism between the fermionic and bosonic constituents of these mixed stars is revealed. This stabilization mechanism appears to be a purely gravitational effect, independent of the type of matter of the companion star, in contrast to recent examples of stabilization mechanisms discussed in other contexts.

Summary: This study investigates the formation and growth of boson stars and their surrounding miniclusters through gravitational condensation using nonlinear dynamical numerical methods, considering attractive and repulsive self-interactions. Strong attractive self-interactions can cause instability and collapse of boson stars, while repulsive self-interactions promote their formation and result in solutions with larger radii.

Modeling gravitational waves from exotic compact objects

Alexandre Toubiana et al.

Summary: Exotic compact objects can be difficult to distinguish from black holes in the inspiral phase of binaries observed by gravitational-wave detectors, but significant differences may be present in the merger and post-merger signal. A toy model capturing the key features of binaries of exotic compact objects with low compactness was introduced to assess their detectability and distinguishability from black hole binaries. The study showed that current detectors like LISA could potentially observe exotic binaries and differentiate them from black hole binaries.
