Theoretical study of the synthesis, characterization and hydrogen storage properties of a high-density hydrogen storage material: (CH3NH3)BH4

Qinfu Zhao et al.

Summary: Inspired by alkaline metal borohydrides and organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite, a complex structure of (CH3NH3)BH4 with high hydrogen capacity is predicted. Through analysis of electronic structures, it is concluded that (CH3NH3)BH4 can be synthesized by a substitution reaction. The structural symmetries, elastic constants, and electronic properties of (CH3NH3)BH4 are investigated, showing strong elastic anisotropy and the influence of a planar dihydrogen bonding network on the dehydrogenation reaction. The proposed dehydrogenation process of (CH3NH3)BH4 via intermediate compounds suggests that it can decompose spontaneously, similar to ammonium borohydride.

Study on the eutectic formation and its correlation with the hydrogen storage properties of Mg98Ni2-xLax alloys

Xin Ding et al.

Summary: Transition metals and rare-earth elements have excellent catalytic effects on improving the de-/hydrogenation properties of Mg-based alloys. The addition of La in Mg98Ni2 alloy improves the overall hydrogen storage properties. La enhances the driving force of hydrogenation, leading to improved hydrogenation rates and capacities. The formation of refined eutectic structures and high-density LaH3 nanophses contribute to the enhanced de-/hydrogenation properties.

High hydrogen coverage on graphene via low temperature plasma with applied magnetic fields

Fang Zhao et al.

Summary: Chemical functionalization of two-dimensional materials, such as graphene, is an effective method for tailoring their properties, with potential applications in energy, catalysis, and electronics. A promising plasma-based method has been developed to provide high hydrogen coverage on graphene, demonstrating higher coverage than previous results and showing potential for diverse applications. The use of radial electric and axial magnetic fields in low-pressure discharge generates a fine-tunable low-temperature hydrogen-rich plasma with enhanced hydrogen density, paving the way for further research and technological advancements in this field.
