Long-term monitoring of natural hydrogen superficial emissions in a brazilian cratonic environment. Sporadic large pulses versus daily periodic emissions

Isabelle Moretti et al.

Summary: Long-term monitoring of hydrogen emissions in basins with permanent detectors revealed that the H-2 flow leading to their formation is variable in space and time. Large sporadic pulses and smaller daily signals were recorded, suggesting a deep hydrogen flux and slow release of gas captured by the soil. External factors like atmospheric pressure and sub-surface bacterial activity may influence the daily signals. Monitoring over months is necessary to estimate the real flow and sensors with a wide concentration range should be used.

Hydrogen Emanations in Intracratonic Areas: New Guide Lines for Early Exploration Basin Screening

Isabelle Moretti et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the offshore emissions of dihydrogen by smokers along oceanic ridges, as well as in situ measurements of H-2 emissive areas in ophiolitic contexts and old cratons. It compares the characteristics of "fairy circles" in various basins, suggesting Australia as a promising area for H-2 exploration. The study also identifies differences between the fairy circles and pockmark and vent structures found in the sea floor.
