Solar hydrogen production via ZnO/Zn based thermochemical water splitting cycle: Effect of partial reduction of ZnO

Rahul R. Bhosale

Summary: This study investigates the influence of partial reduction of ZnO on the thermodynamic parameters of the ZnO/Zn WS cycle. Results indicate that operating the partially reduced ZnO/Zn WS cycle in the temperature range of 1040 K-1240 K is more efficient.

MoO3/g-C3N4 Z-scheme (S-scheme) system derived from MoS2/melamine dual precursors for enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution driven by visible light

Jinwen Shi et al.

Summary: A dual-precursors co-pyrolysis strategy was used to prepare MoO3/g-C3N4 composite photocatalysts, showing improved photocatalytic performance under visible-light irradiation. The MoS2 precursor facilitated intimate contact with g-C3N4 nanosheets and high dispersity of MoO3, while the strong interaction between MoO3 and g-C3N4 altered the morphology and electronic structure of g-C3N4, generating an efficient Z scheme system in the composite. This cooperative effect significantly enhanced the activity of photocatalytic H-2 evolution, providing valuable insight for the construction of composite photocatalyst systems for visible-light-driven H-2 evolution.

Surface functionalized N-C-TiO2/C nanocomposites derived from metal-organic framework in water vapour for enhanced photocatalytic H2 generation

Mian Zahid Hussain et al.

Summary: In this study, surface-functionalized nitrogen/carbon co-doped polymorphic TiO2 nanoparticles uniformly distributed in porous carbon matrix were synthesized by pyrolysis of titanium based metal-organic framework NH2-MIL-125(Ti) under water vapour atmosphere. The introduction of water vapour not only functionalizes the porous carbon matrix but also enhances charge transfer efficiency, resulting in significantly improved photocatalytic H-2 generation activity.

Oxygen Vacancies Induced Plasmonic Effect for Realizing Broad-Spectrum-Driven Photocatalytic H2 Evolution over an S-Scheme CdS/W18O49 Heterojunction

Qinqin Liu et al.

Summary: Integrating oxygen-vacancy-rich W18O49 as a plasmon antenna with CdS can enhance the photocatalytic H-2 generation activity under visible light, achieving a higher efficiency compared to CdS alone. This enhancement is attributed to the improved light-harvesting ability and faster charge separation caused by the LSPR effect of W18O49 plasmon with rich oxygen vacancies and an S-scheme transfer mechanism.

Lei Luo et al.

Summary: By controlling the precursor dosage and introducing sulfur doping into the polymer, sulfur-doped holey g-C3N4 nanosheets with excellent visible-light driven photocatalytic hydrogen production activity were prepared. The optimized catalyst exhibits efficient hydrogen evolution activity under visible light, thanks to the effects of enlarged surface area, negatively-shifted conduction band, and narrowed bandgap.

In situ self-assembled S-scheme BiOBr/pCN hybrid with enhanced photocatalytic activity for organic pollutant degradation and CO2 reduction

Tao zhang et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a unique S-scheme heterostructure by immobilizing hollow hierarchical BiOBr microspheres onto protonated g-C3N4, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity for degradation of RhB and reduction of CO2. The introduction of pCN improved the adsorption capability and transformed RhB and CO2 molecules, while enhancing the separation of photogenerated charge carriers. The hybrid catalyst showed significantly improved activity under visible-light irradiation, with the 10% pCN/BiOBr hybrid demonstrating the best performance for RhB degradation and CO2 reduction.

In-situ intramolecular synthesis of tubular carbon nitride S-scheme homojunctions with exceptional in-plane exciton splitting and mechanism insight

Yongchao Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a carbon nitride homojunction with an open tubular interior and porosity was successfully developed, featuring a unique S-type structure that enhances exciton dissociation efficiency and suppresses charge recombination through a built-in electric field, resulting in increased hydrogen production. This provides valuable guidance for the rational fabrication of carbon nitride homojunctions with positive exciton splitting and interfacial charge transfer.
