Boosting the electrocatalytic HER performance of Ni3N-V2O3 via the interface coupling effect

Peng Zhou et al.

Summary: The construction of a suitable coupling interface is essential for improving the performance of high-efficient electrocatalysts. In this study, a Ni3N-V2O3 composite was designed and synthesized, showing excellent electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance. The introduction of V2O3 led to a confinement effect and interface coupling effect, which greatly increased catalytic sites and improved performance.

Bimetallic NiCo-NiCoO2 nano-heterostructures embedded on copper foam as a self-supported bifunctional electrode for water oxidation and hydrogen production in alkaline media

Umair Yaqub Qazi et al.

Summary: The study presents NiCo-NiCoO2 nano-heterostructures embedded on copper foam as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for water splitting. The synergic effect of Ni and Co metals results in remarkable small overpotentials for hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions. This surface modification strategy with metal/metal oxide alloying on a conductive substrate helps design low cost, highly efficient non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts.

One-step plasma nitriding synthesis of NixN/NF (x=3, 4) for efficient hydrogen evolution

Guanshui Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple plasma-enhanced discharge nitridation method was utilized to fabricate NixN/NF cathode, which showed excellent HER electrocatalytic performance and long-term durability in alkaline conditions. Density functional calculations revealed that the introduction of N atoms in NF reduced the values of Gibbs free energy, particularly at the Ni4N-Ni interfacial sites, resulting in the lowest value for H adsorption-desorption.
