Exposed facet-controlled N2 electroreduction on distinct Pt3Fe nanostructures of nanocubes, nanorods and nanowires

Wu Tong et al.

Summary: This study reports the controlled synthesis of Pt3Fe nanocrystals as model electrocatalysts for NRR, showing shape-dependent electrocatalysis on different exposed facets. The optimized Pt3Fe nanowires with high-indexed facets exhibit excellent selectivity, high activity, and good stability in NRR, outperforming nanocubes and nanorods. Density functional theory calculations suggest that high-indexed facet engineering enhances Pt-Fe electronic exchange and transfer activities for NRR.

Analysis of Thermal Stress in a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Due to the Sulfur Poisoning Interface of the Electrolyte and Cathode

Yilin Xu et al.

Summary: Sulfur poisoning significantly decreases electric and ionic current densities, affects oxygen reduction reaction detrimentally, and leads to temperature reduction and thermal stresses near the interface of the active cathode and electrolyte. Visualized results of current density, temperature, and stresses help understand the sulfur poisoning behavior and internal changes of crucial electrochemical processes.

Perovskite ceramic oxide as an efficient electrocatalyst for nitrogen fixation

Yangsen Xu et al.

Summary: This study utilized Sr as a dopant for LaFeO3 to create oxygen vacancies, forming Sr-doped LFO perovskite oxide, which exhibited superior NH3 yield and faradic efficiency as a catalyst compared to other materials. The N-15 isotope labeling method confirmed the catalyst's ability to convert N-2 into NH3 under electrolysis conditions. First principle calculations revealed that the introduction of oxygen vacancies significantly accelerated the overall nitrogen reduction reaction process.

Tailoring electronic structure of perovskite cathode for proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells with high performance

Xi Xu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that tailoring the electronic structure of perovskite oxide with Mo-doping leads to improvements in cathode materials for proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells. The Mo-doping changes the electronic structure of the oxide, making the metal-oxygen bond less strong and the surface more active towards oxygen reduction, resulting in more feasible oxygen vacancy formation critical for protonation. The electric field induced by Mo-doping provides an additional driving force for proton movement, accelerating proton migration in the oxide and improving cathode performance.

Catalytic Combustion of Propane over MnNbOx Composite Oxides: The Promotional Role of Niobium

Kai Zeng et al.

Summary: Metal-doping with niobium as a modification additive enhances the catalytic activity of MnOx for propane combustion. Niobium insertion into manganese oxides promotes the formation of Mn3O4 crystalline phase, increases redox ability and surface oxygen species, and provides more acid sites, crucial for catalytic activity enhancement. Mn0.85Nb0.15Ox catalyst shows the highest propane conversion efficiency and good durability under CO2-containing atmospheres, with surface acidity playing an important role in propane adsorption, activation, and oxidation pathways.
