Formation of mesoporous Co/CoS/Metal-N-C@S, N-codoped hairy carbon polyhedrons as an efficient trifunctional electrocatalyst for Zn-air batteries and water splitting

Lei Yan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a hierarchical trifunctional electrocatalyst, Co/CoS/Fe-HSNC, synthesized using a metal-organic framework-induced strategy, which shows superior performance in ORR, OER and HER due to its rationally designed nanostructures. The catalyst exhibits high power density and low charge/discharge voltage gap in a Zn-air battery, offering new insights for constructing multifunctional catalysts for zinc-air batteries and water electrolysis.

Fabrication of 1D/2D CdS/CoSx direct Z-scheme photocatalyst with enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance

Weibing Li et al.

Summary: A 1D/2D heterojunction photocatalyst consisting of n-type CdS nanorods and p-type CoSx nanoflake is fabricated, achieving a remarkably high hydrogen evolution rate. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the fabrication of a direct Z-Scheme heterojunction system, which significantly improves the utilization, migration, and separation rate of photo-generated carriers. This work describes for the first time a CdS/CoSx direct Z-scheme system with 1D/2D nanostructure.

CdS-dots decorated WO3 nanorods photocatalyst with highly ordered interfacial structure for enhanced photocatalytic activities via Z-scheme mechanism

Longfei Zhao et al.

Summary: Constructing heterostructure is an effective strategy to enhance photocatalytic activities by improving the separation of charge carriers. The CdS-WO3 heterostructure photocatalysts showed significantly improved degradation efficiency compared to individual WO3 and CdS, mainly attributed to the more efficient Z-scheme mechanism.

In2Se3/CdS nanocomposites as high efficiency photocatalysts for hydrogen production under visible light irradiation

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: In this study, In2Se3/CdS nanocomposite photocatalysts with varying CdS mass content were prepared, with the composition containing 85.25% CdS showing the highest hydrogen evolution activity. The formation of a heterojunction between In2Se3 and CdS, along with a step-scheme electron transfer route, contribute to the efficient separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, leading to enhanced hydrogen evolution activity and stability.

Synergistic effect of hierarchical structure and Z-scheme heterojunction constructed by CdS nanoparticles and nanoflower-structured Co9S8 with significantly enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production performance

Chang Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, a CdS/Co9S8 Z-scheme heterojunction system was prepared to enhance the photocatalytic hydrogen production performance. The synergistic effect between hierarchical structure and Z-scheme heterojunction facilitates the quick and efficient transfer of photogenerated charge carriers, accelerating the hydrogen production process. The photocatalytic hydrogen production rate of the CdS/Co9S8 Z-scheme heterojunction system is significantly higher compared to CdS and Co9S8 alone.

Constructing internal electric field in CdS via Bi, Ni co-doping strategy for enhanced visible-light H2 production

Zhiguo Lv et al.

Summary: A facile method of Bi, Ni co-doping was proposed to build internal electric field in CdS, effectively restraining recombination of electron-hole pairs and achieving powerful water splitting photocatalysis. The synthesized Bi/Ni-CdS catalyst displayed a coralloid morphology with a large specific surface area and a narrowed band gap, leading to enhanced visible-light harnessing ability and significantly increased photocatalytic H-2 evolution rate. This improvement was attributed to the synergistic regulation of electron density and internal electric field by doped Bi and Ni atoms, as well as the enhanced electron generation and migration properties in Bi/Ni-CdS.
