This study quantifies the effects of laser recasting superalloy through experimental and computational investigations, establishing fatigue life assessment and describing the mechanical properties of the recasting material. The results confirm that the mechanical strength of the recasting material reaches nearly 50% of the base material, while its fatigue life is only about 1/10 of the base material.
In the present work, the laser recasting superalloy was experimentally and computationally investigated to quantify the effects of laser manufacturing. Local stresses and strains in recasting specimens were tested to establish the fatigue life assessment. A modified plasticity model was used to describe the cyclic plasticity behavior under multiaxial loading conditions. With the help of finite element computations and instrumented indentation, the local mechanical property of the recasting material can be identified. It is confirmed that the mechanical strength of the recasting material reaches nearly 50% of the base material, whereas its fatigue life is about 1/10 of the base material.
