Combined throat/nasal swab sampling for SARS-CoV-2 is equivalent to nasopharyngeal sampling

A. L. M. Vlek et al.

Summary: The study compared the performance of combined throat/nasal sampling and nasopharyngeal sampling in detecting SARS-CoV-2. Results showed high concordance between the two sampling methods, with combined throat/nasal swabs demonstrating similar sensitivity to detect SARS-CoV-2 as nasopharyngeal swabs.

Association Between Upper Respiratory Tract Viral Load, Comorbidities, Disease Severity, and Outcome of Patients With SARS-CoV-2 Infection

Helena C. Maltezou et al.

Summary: Analysis of 1122 COVID-19 patients revealed that high upper respiratory tract viral load was associated with older age, comorbidities, severe disease (COVID-19), intubation, and mortality, as well as longer stays in the intensive care unit and intubation time. High viral load was also more common in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease, hypertension, chronic pulmonary disease, immunosuppression, obesity, and chronic neurological disease.
