Effect of substrate-to-inoculum ratio on anaerobic digestion of treated and untreated cotton textile waste

J. Juanga-Labayen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of different SIR values on the batch anaerobic digestion of cotton textile waste, and found that treated substrate showed higher methane yield and anaerobic degradability compared to untreated substrate. The Gompertz model fitted well with the experimental data, with an R2 value of 0.96-0.99, showing improvement over the first-order kinetic model.

Simultaneous addition of biochar and zero-valent iron to improve food waste anaerobic digestion

Tugui Yuan et al.

Summary: The study found that biochar and zero-valent iron individually promoted food waste anaerobic digestion, and the simultaneous addition of both further improved performance by reducing the methanogenic lag phase and increasing methane yield and production rate.

Optimization of methane production in a swine manure-rice straw anaerobic co-digestion process with sycamore sawdust biochar application

B. Jiang et al.

Summary: Anaerobic co-digestion is widely used for re-utilizing livestock manure, but the low methane yield remains a key issue. This study produced and characterized sycamore sawdust biochar (SSB) and investigated its promoting effect on a swine manure-rice straw co-digestion system. The results showed that applying SSB could improve the stability of the system and increase methane yield.

Anaerobic co-digestion of waste activated sludge and fish waste: Methane production performance and mechanism analysis

Yuqi Wu et al.

Summary: The study on anaerobic co-digestion of waste activated sludge and fish waste showed that adding 1.5% and 3% of fish waste could enhance methane production, while adding more than 6% inhibited methane production severely. Microbial community analysis revealed dominance of hydrogenotrophic and methylotrophic methanogenesis pathways during anaerobic co-digestion.

Effect of calcium peroxide and sodium hydroxide on hydrogen and methane generation during the co-digestion of food waste and cow dung

Chinmay Deheri et al.

Summary: Anaerobic co-digestion of food waste, cow dung, and sludge solution was experimentally evaluated for hydrogen and methane production with the addition of calcium peroxide (CaO2) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The study found that using NaOH increased biogas generation by 17% and methane concentration by 10%, while the addition of CaO2 improved hydrogen concentration by 7% and cumulative hydrogen yield by 37%. The production of hydrogen was significantly enhanced by CaO2, while methane generation was influenced by NaOH.

Impacts of different operational temperatures and organic loads in anaerobic co-digestion of food waste and sewage sludge on the fate of SARS-CoV-2

Mohammad Javad Bardi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of different operational temperatures and organic loads on the fate of SARS-CoV-2 during the anaerobic co-digestion of food waste and sewage sludge. Results showed that higher organic loads led to system instability, while increasing operational temperature promoted more biogas production due to enhanced metabolic activity of bacteria.
