Pure methane from CO2 hydrogenation using a sorption enhanced process with catalyst/zeolite bifunctional materials

Liangyuan Wei et al.

Summary: Testing different bifunctional materials revealed that 5%Ni2.5%Ce13X performed the best, achieving nearly 100% CO2 conversion and CH4 selectivity during 100 cycles of reactive adsorption-desorption testing, with only a slight decrease in water uptake capacity.

Assessment of atmospheric pollutant emissions with maritime energy strategies using bayesian simulations and time series forecasting

Jiahui Liu et al.

Summary: With stricter regulations on emissions and concerns about environmental pollution, the use of marine fuel oils, especially heavy fuel oils, will no longer be allowed in the future. Various maritime energy strategies are needed for long-term upgrades, and this study has developed a novel approach to quantify fuel choices and assess their adequacy in meeting future environmental regulations. Using probabilistic simulations and real data, the approach is demonstrated with application examples at major ports to discuss future atmospheric pollutant emissions with different maritime energy strategies.

Synthesis of renewable hydrocarbons from vegetable oil feedstock by hydrotreatment over selective sulfur-free SiO2-Al2O3 supported monometallic Pd, Pt, Ru, Ni, Mo and bimetallic NiMo catalysts

Kristaps Malins

Summary: Screening tests were carried out on various monometallic and bimetallic catalysts synthesized by different impregnation methods to evaluate their performance and selectivity for hydrocarbon production from vegetable oil feedstock with high FFA content. Among them, the Mo-promoted Ni17Mo3DP catalyst exhibited great performance and selectivity, achieving a higher hydrocarbon yield and demonstrating potential for producing renewable hydrocarbons from fatty acid containing raw materials.

A review of bio-oil upgrading by catalytic hydrotreatment: Advances, challenges, and prospects

Mingyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Fast pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction are considered promising technologies for liquid bio-fuel production, but the poor quality of crude bio-oils has limited their direct applications. Hydrotreatment such as hydrodeoxygenation is a common upgrading technique, and this review explores the effects of different reaction conditions on the HDO treatment of real bio-oil. The underlying mechanisms for bio-oil HDO, technical challenges, and potential solutions are discussed, along with knowledge gaps and future research directions.

Catalytic hydrotreatment of lignin-derived pyrolysis bio-oils using Cu/γ-Al2O3 catalyst: Reaction network development and kinetic study of anisole upgrading

Majid Saidi et al.

Summary: The kinetic study of upgrading anisole to jet-grade fuels via catalytic hydrotreatment process reveals that benzene is formed as the primary product through demethoxylation of anisole, with phenol showing the highest selectivity and activation energy in the hydrogenolysis reaction. The comprehensive quantitative reaction network for anisole catalytic hydrotreatment over Cu/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst is consistent with previous studies.

Enhanced selectivity of benzene-toluene-ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) in direct conversion of n-butanol to aromatics over Zn modified HZSM5 catalysts

Tatinaidu Kella et al.

Summary: This study investigates the direct conversion of n-butanol to aromatics using Zn-deposited HZSM5 catalysts, showing that the presence of Zn enhances the selectivities of aromatics and BTEX. Increasing temperature and decreasing WHSV also contribute to higher selectivities, but high pressure has a adverse effect on the aromatics selectivity.

Prediction of ultra low sulphur diesel catalyst performance using limited pilot plant data

Haitem Hassan-Beck et al.

Summary: In this study, catalytic testing of four commercial alumina-supported cobalt-molybdenum (CoMo) catalysts was conducted using a complex real mixture of straight run gasoil fraction to determine the operational conditions at an industrial unit, focusing on refractory sulphur compounds and their reaction kinetics parameters. Parameter estimation techniques were employed to determine the highest posterior density intervals for the catalysts, with results showing different capabilities in extending commercial run lengths.
