Psychosocial etiology of maladaptive exercise and its role in eating disorders: A systematic review

Sasha Gorrell et al.

Summary: Although maladaptive exercise is a recognized clinical feature in transdiagnostic eating disorders, this systematic review found that there is reasonably consistent associations between early concern with weight and shape, and negative affect on later development of ME. However, inconsistent and insufficient assessment of ME across studies highlights the need for caution in interpreting results and emphasizes the importance of guiding future clinical and research efforts.

Integrated weight loss and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for the treatment of recurrent binge eating and high body mass index: a randomized controlled trial

Marly Amorim Palavras et al.

Summary: This study found that in treating adults with disorders of recurrent binge eating and high BMI, HAPIFED was not significantly better than CBT-E in promoting weight loss and reducing most ED symptoms. However, HAPIFED showed greater improvement in reducing purging behavior and binge remission rates at the 12-month follow-up.
