Immune microenvironment of hepatocellular carcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and liver metastasis of colorectal adenocarcinoma: Relationship with histopathological and molecular classifications

Yutaka Kurebayashi et al.

Summary: The tumor microenvironment, consisting of tumor cells, immune cells, and non-immune stromal cells, plays a crucial role in regulating tumor growth. Different patterns of immune microenvironment are observed among different tumor subtypes, with intense studies on their clinicopathological significance and intertumor/intratumor heterogeneity.Understanding the comprehensive histopathological picture of a tumor immune microenvironment is essential for precision medicine in the era of tumor-targeting immunotherapy.

Lymphocyte-C-reactive protein ratio as a novel prognostic index in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: A multicentre cohort study

Liang-He Lu et al.

Summary: The LCR score in ICC patients is associated with overall survival and outperforms other inflammatory-based scores in terms of predictive accuracy. It may serve as a simple, objective, and discriminatory method for risk stratification in ICC patients.

Prognostic impact of tumor microvessels in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: association with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes

Kyohei Yugawa et al.

Summary: Tumor microvessel density (MVD) is a prognostic factor for patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). A low MVD in ICC patients is associated with larger tumors, more frequent microvascular invasion, higher metastasis rates, and worse prognosis. MVD is positively correlated with CD8+ TILs and negatively correlated with Foxp3+ TILs, but not significantly correlated with PD-L1 expression.

The prognostic impact of lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein score in patients undergoing surgical resection for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: A comparative study of major representative inflammatory / immunonutritional markers

Daisuke Noguchi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic utility of inflammatory/immunonutritional markers in resected iCCA patients, and found that preoperative lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein score was the strongest prognostic indicator, suggesting early nutritional support intervention prior to surgery is beneficial.

Obesity is a risk factor for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma progression associated with alterations of metabolic activity and immune status

Kyohei Yugawa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between BMI and the long-term outcomes of patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). The results showed that patients in the obesity group had significantly worse prognoses, and BMI displayed a positive correlation with F-18-FDG uptake. Obesity was associated with larger tumor size and higher intrahepatic metastasis rate in ICC patients.

CMTM6 Stabilizes PD-L1 Expression and Is a New Prognostic Impact Factor in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Kyohei Yugawa et al.

Summary: The study revealed that high CMTM6 expression in patients with HCC is associated with malignant features and poor outcomes. CMTM6 expression was significantly correlated with PD-L1 expression in HCC tissues, and patients with co-expression of CMTM6 and PD-L1 showed better clinical outcomes.
