Silk microfibrous mats with long-lasting antimicrobial function

Mi Wu et al.

Summary: The controlled release of drug-loaded halloysite nanotubes incorporated into regenerated silk fibroin microfibrous mats by electrospinning achieved sustained drug release and long-lasting antimicrobial protection for wound care. The two-step release mechanism, first from the nanotubes and then from the matrix, resulted in significantly reduced burst phase and prolonged release time over two weeks. These TCH-loaded RSF microfibrous mats demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and sustained antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making them a promising wound dressing material for clinical applications.

Impact of Ergothioneine, Hercynine, and Histidine on Oxidative Degradation of Hyaluronan and Wound Healing

Katarina Valachova et al.

Summary: The study found that ergothioneine can reduce the degree of hyaluronan radical degradation, while histidine has a potent effect in scavenging (OH)-O-center dot radicals. Animal experiments showed that adding ergothioneine, hercynine, or histidine to chitosan/hyaluronan membranes can more effectively treat ischemic skin wounds in rabbits.
