Printable alginate/gelatin hydrogel reinforced with carbon nanofibers as electrically conductive scaffolds for tissue engineering

Aleksandra Serafin et al.

Summary: This study developed hybrid printable biomaterials composed of alginate and gelatin hydrogel systems filled with carbon nanofibers, creating electroconductive and printable 3-D scaffolds with excellent mechanical performance and improved cellular proliferation. The incorporation of CNFs enhances shear-thinning behavior, allowing easy 3-D printing and potential applications in tissue engineering strategies involving electroconductive components.

Development and characterization of novel antioxidant films based on chitosan and Maillard reaction products

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to manufacture antioxidant films based on chitosan and Maillard reaction products derived from cod skin collagen peptides. The results showed that with the incremental amounts of MRPs, the thickness, water solubility, and water vapor permeability of chitosan films increased, while water content, tensile strength, and elongation at break decreased. Incorporation of MRPs improved UV-vis light barrier properties and antioxidant capacities of the films, with little effect on thermal stability within the 0-10% range.

Composition of antimicrobial edible films and methods for assessing their antimicrobial activity: A review

Esmail Abdollahzadeh et al.

Summary: There is no standardized methodology for assessing the antimicrobial effects of edible films, but disc and well diffusion assays along with viable cell count methods are the most common. The key to selecting an appropriate evaluation method lies in the type of active components and materials used in producing the edible films.
