Lignin-derived (nano)materials for environmental pollution remediation: Current challenges and future perspectives

Mohaddeseh Sajjadi et al.

Summary: The supply of affordable and clean drinking water is a crucial global environmental issue, and research is being done on utilizing biomass-derived biosorbents like lignin to remove contaminants effectively. Future efforts should focus on improving the economic viability of low-cost, green lignin-derived materials for broader applications in water treatment. Production of functionalized lignin and lignin-supported nanomaterials is a promising approach in nanotechnology for wastewater treatment.
