Nano-enhanced biolubricant in sustainable manufacturing: From processability to mechanisms

Yanbin Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the application of nano-enhanced biolubricant (NEBL) in minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) machining and analyzes its performance and mechanisms in processes such as turning, milling, and grinding. By quantitatively comparing with biolubricant, the advanced lubrication and heat transfer mechanisms of NEBL are revealed. Furthermore, future development directions and improvement methods for NEBL are proposed.

Minimum quantity lubrication machining of aeronautical materials using carbon group nanolubricant: From mechanisms to application

Xin Cui et al.

Summary: Replacing flood and dry machining with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) technology is an inevitable trend of sustainable manufacturing. However, MQL cannot meet the high demand for cooling and lubrication in the machining of aeronautical difficult-to-machine materials. This study focuses on the comprehensive quantitative assessment of tribological characteristics in titanium alloy and nickel alloy machining using nano-biolubricants, specifically non-toxic carbon group nano-enhancers (CGNs), aiming to systematically answer the machining mechanisms under lubrication of CGNs.

Effect of laser-discrete-quenching on bonding properties of electroplated grinding wheel with AISI 1045 steel substrate and nickel bond

Cong Mao et al.

Summary: The proposed hybrid technique of combining laser pre-quenching and post-electroplating nickel improves the bonding strength between the nickel bond and the hub of the electro-plated diamond grinding wheel. The phase transformation of AISI 1045 microstructure to martensitic phase through pre-quenching treatment enhances the corrosion resistance and smoothness of the coating-substrate interface, significantly increasing bonding strengths and thermal shock resistance.

Convective Heat Transfer Coefficient Model Under Nanofluid Minimum Quantity Lubrication Coupled with Cryogenic Air Grinding Ti-6Al-4V

Jianchao Zhang et al.

Summary: A new environmentally sustainable approach, CNMQL, is proposed to address the unfavorable lubricating characteristic of cryogenic air and the deficient cooling performance of minimum quantity lubrication. A convective heat transfer coefficient model was established to investigate the heat transfer mechanism of vortex tube cold air fraction by CNMQL. Experimental verification showed that when the cold air fraction was 0.35, nanofluids exhibited low specific grinding energy, high viscosity, and a large contact angle.

Effects of Physicochemical Properties of Different Base Oils on Friction Coefficient and Surface Roughness in MQL Milling AISI 1045

Qingan Yin et al.

Summary: Research found that palm oil showed the best lubrication effect among different vegetable oils, achieving the lowest milling force, friction coefficient, and surface roughness values, resulting in the smoothest workpiece surface. Analysis revealed that palm oil, with a high content of saturated fatty acids, high viscosity, and small contact angle, could form the strongest lubricating oil film at the tool-workpiece interface.
