The reaction system produces a pentanuclear cluster with the doubly deprotonated form of the gem-diol derivative, representing the first characterized Th-5(IV) complex. The structural analysis reveals it is a Kuratowski-type coordination compound.
The Th(NO3)(4)center dot 5H(2)O/di(2-pyridyl) ketone [(py)(2)CO] reaction system gives a pentanuclear cluster containing the doubly deprotonated form of the gem-diol derivative of the ligand. The cluster consists of a tetrahedral arrangement of four Th-IV ions centered on the fifth ion, which is the first characterized Th-5(IV) complex The analysis of its structure reveals that this is a Kuratowski-type coordination compound.
