A fiber-optic sensor based on microfiber coupler is proposed for dual parameter detection of acetaminophen and temperature. The sensor showed detection sensitivities for acetaminophen concentration and temperature, indicating its potential application in pharmaceutical quality control and hospital wastewater treatment.
A fiber-optic sensor based on a microfiber coupler (MFC) for dual parameter detection of acetaminophen and temperature is proposed. The microfiber structure is manufactured by hydrogen-oxygen flame-heating technology. The characteristics of the transmission spectrum were studied theoretically and experimentally under conditions of different acetaminophen concentrations and temperatures. Acetaminophen concentration detection sensitivities of 102.4 pm/(mu mol/mL) and -0.01 dB/(mu mol/mL) in the range of 10 - 50 mu mol/mL, as well as temperature sensitivities of -0.32 nm/degrees C and -0.001 dB/degrees C, were obtained for the proposed sensor. These results indicate that the photonic sensor has potential as a tool for pharmaceutical quality control and hospital wastewater treatment.
