Increasing body size and fecundity in a salamander over four decades, possibly due to global warming

Hisanori Okamiya et al.

Summary: Comparing historic and contemporary body size and clutch size measurements in the salamander Hynobius tokyoensis collected from different latitudes, it was found that the species has undergone significant increases in body size and clutch size over the past four decades. Results also show that increases in body size and clutch size ratios were greater in high-latitude populations, indicating that the magnitude of the response to climate change within a species depends on the geography of the population.

How will climate change impact fossorial lizard species? Two examples in the Baja California Peninsula

Summary: Global climate change and habitat suitability erosion pose pervasive threats to biodiversity, requiring the identification of specific stressors to assess species vulnerability. This study employs a combination of field, laboratory, and modeling approaches to assess the potential consequences of climate change on two endemic lizard species from Baja California, Mexico. Results suggest high extinction risk for both species based on thermal habitat suitability, with one species potentially expanding northward while the other contracts significantly.
