Development of near-isogenic lines of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) for glaucousness inhibitor loci Iw1, Iw3 and Iw4 derived from wild relatives

N. Watanabe

Summary: Most cultivated wheat varieties have glaucous spikes, leaves and leaf sheaths, with the non-glaucous phenotype being rare in modern varieties. Studies suggest that wild wheat may be the source of the allele controlling non-glaucousness. Near-isogenic lines of durum wheat were developed for glaucousness inhibitor loci derived from wild relatives, revealing the importance of certain glaucousness genes.
