Review Article Genotype and phenotype of COVID-19: Their roles in pathogenesis

Leila Mousavizadeh et al.

Summary: COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus belonging to the Betacoronavirus genus, with similarities and differences in genomic structure compared to other human Betacoronaviruses. It contains at least six open reading frames and important structural proteins are encoded near the one-third of the genome.

Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics Exhibit Low Antiviral Activity against SARS-CoV-2 and MERS-CoV

Stacey L. P. Scroggs et al.

Summary: The study found that fluoroquinolones at high concentrations have some inhibitory effects on the replication of SARS-CoV-2 and MERS-CoV, with enoxacin showing the best results. Levofloxacin did not exhibit cellular toxicity in any cell type, while moxifloxacin showed toxicity at high concentrations in both cell types.

Modulatory and Toxicological Perspectives on the Effects of the Small Molecule Kinetin

Eman M. Othman et al.

Summary: Plant hormone kinetin binds to adenosine receptor A2a-R through Asn253 residue in an adenosine-dependent manner. Acute toxicity assessment in rats shows no adverse effects on glucose level or liver enzymes at a dose below 1 mg/kg, although creatinine levels increased at 0.5 mg/kg dose. High dose of 5 mg/kg resulted in mild degeneration in renal and liver tissues.

Summary: Small molecule inhibitors of focal adhesion kinase have shown promising therapeutic potential in cancer treatment. Among the 1,2,4-triazole derivatives tested, compounds 3c and 3d demonstrated the strongest antiproliferative activity, with 3d being identified as a potent preclinical candidate for cancer treatment.
