Novel Hybrid Nanostructures of Carbon Nanotube/Fullerene-like Tungsten Disulfide as Reinforcement for Aramid Fabric Composites

Summary: A new type of multiaxial aramid fabric composites was created with inorganic fullerene-like tungsten disulfide nanoparticles (IF-WS2) and single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) as nanoreinforcement to enhance dynamic mechanical and anti-stabbing properties. Mechanical testing showed significant improvement in tensile strength, energy absorption, impact toughness, and absorbed energy after knife penetration for composites containing the o-SWCNT/m-IF hybrid nanoparticles.
