Multiple spark plugs coupled with pressure sensors: A new approach for knock mechanism study on SI engines

Hao Shi et al.

Summary: Controlled knock combustion is the focus of research for modern spark-ignition engines to improve thermal efficiency and performance. The study found that activating more spark plugs can promote knock intensity, but symmetrically activating four spark plugs can effectively suppress knock. Additionally, advancing spark timing leads to earlier auto-ignition and more energy release during knock.
