Bio-based difurfurylidene acetone was utilized as a renewable feedstock for the production of jet fuel range hydrocarbons through the hydrodeoxygenation process. By examining the Si/Zr ratio and Ni content, excellent results in terms of activity and selectivity were achieved towards the formation of bio-jet fuel range hydrocarbons C13-C16. The catalyst's performances were found to be influenced by the nature and the strength of the support acidity, as well as the metal-support interaction.
Biobased difurfurylidene acetone produced by aldol condensation of furfural was used as a renewable feedstock for production of jet fuel range hydrocarbons via the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) process. The reaction was carried out in a single step at 280 degrees C using Ni/SiO2-ZrO2 (Si/Zr = 1, 3, 5) as catalysts. The influences of Si/Zr ratio as well as Ni content were examined. Excellent results in terms of activity and selectivity towards the formation of bio-jet fuel range hydrocarbons C13-C16 have been obtained. The catalyst's performances were related to the nature and the strength of the support acidity as well as to the metal-support interaction.
