Influence of matrix size and pore damage path on the size dependence of gas adsorption capacity of coal

Wei Zhao et al.

Summary: This study aims to explain the gas sorption behaviors that occurred in previous experiments and clarify the relationship between the pore system damage path and the adsorption capacity. The results will help improve the accuracy of the evaluation of adsorption capacity for coal.

Gas seepage in underground coal seams: Application of the equivalent scale of coal matrix-fracture structures in coal permeability measurements

Haijun Guo et al.

Summary: Coal is a complex dual-porosity porous medium composed of fractures and coal matrices. The gas seepage characteristics in coals are closely related to the coal matrix-fracture structures and can be simplified to equivalent scale characteristics. A simplified permeability evolution model and a method for measuring permeability in coal seams were proposed, enriching the theory of gas seepage and laying a foundation for studying the evolution mechanism of coal permeability during plastic deformation.

Pore-fracture alteration of different rank coals: Implications for CO2 sequestration in coal

Guanglei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that lignite has well-developed mesopores and macropores, while fractures are more pronounced in bituminous and anthracite coals. After treatment with ScCO2, lignite showed slight changes in mesopores and macropores, while bituminous and anthracite coals exhibited increased mesopores, macropores, and fractures connectivity. The study suggests that ScCO2 has the potential to increase coal porosity and permeability, providing additional pathways for carbon storage and methane recovery.

Uneven stress and permeability variation of mining-disturbed coal seam for targeted CBM drainage: A case study in Baode coal mine, eastern Ordos Basin, China

Chao Xu et al.

Summary: This study focused on the permeability of coal reservoirs in China and how to increase it for coalbed methane drainage. Through field measurements and numerical simulations in Baode coal mine, the study proposed a targeted CBM drainage method that achieved good results in practice.

Rockburst mechanism in coal rock with structural surface and the microseismic (MS) and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) response

Xuelong Li et al.

Summary: This paper establishes an elastic-plastic-brittle mutation rockburst model for coal rock with structural surface, and researches the energy accumulation and dissipation mechanism during dynamic deformation and rupture to obtain the rockburst energy condition. Additionally, a volume element-region-system model of rockburst is established to explain the evolution process. The analysis of microseismic and electromagnetic radiation characteristics of coal rock provides a deeper understanding of the rockburst mechanism for accurate monitoring and early warning.
