Effect of Pd Precursor Salts on the Chemical State, Particle Size, and Performance of Activated Carbon-Supported Pd Catalysts for the Selective Hydrogenation of Palm Biodiesel

Parncheewa Udomsap et al.

Summary: Selective hydrogenation of polyunsaturated fatty acid methyl esters to monounsaturated fatty acid methyl esters under mild conditions using Pd catalysts supported on activated carbon can improve the oxidative stability of biodiesel fuel. The chemical states and particle sizes of Pd in the catalysts significantly influence the hydrogenation activity and product selectivity, with larger Pd particles leading to higher selectivity towards desired components. Conversely, catalysts containing smaller Pd particles may lead to increased selectivity towards unwanted components, reducing the quality of biodiesel.
