Enhancing the analytical performance of paper lateral fl ow assays: From chemistry to engineering

Summary: Paper-based lateral flow assays (LFAs) have achieved significant success in point-of-care diagnostics, however, they still face challenges in sensitivity, specificity, selectivity, reproducibility, and multiplex capability. Potential solutions in chemistry, nanobiotechnology, and engineering can be applied to enhance sensitivity, improve specificity, optimize selectivity, and develop better controls for reproducibility, ultimately paving the way for more efficient LFAs in various fields such as clinical settings, food safety, environment monitoring, and biosecurity.
