Influence of soil structure on the spread of Pseudomonas fluorescens in soil at microscale

Archana Juyal et al.

Summary: The study found that soil pore characteristics and solid-pore interfaces influence the spread and colonization of bacteria, especially at lower bulk densities, resulting in relatively higher bacterial densities.

To what extent can multifractal measures provide an accurate model of the porosity of soils?

Edith Perrier et al.

Summary: Exploring the application of multifractal measures in soil, it was found that generating synthetic soil images with multifractal porosity faced challenges such as difficulty in tuning parameters and inability to develop a pure multifractal model for solid or pore mass distribution. Additionally, simple statistics relying on power-law fits were deemed insufficient to fully characterize soil architecture.

Wet sieving versus dry crushing: Soil microaggregates reveal different physical structure, bacterial diversity and organic matter composition in a clay gradient

Vincent J. M. N. L. Felde et al.

Summary: Different methods of isolating soil microaggregates were compared in terms of mechanical stability, organic carbon contents, and microbial community composition. Dry crushing method showed higher stability and bacterial diversity compared to wet sieving, with a stronger correlation between bacterial community composition and clay content.

C-STABILITY an innovative modeling framework to leverage the continuous representation of organic matter

Julien Sainte-Marie et al.

Summary: The understanding of soil organic matter (SOM) dynamics has advanced significantly in recent years, shifting from the belief that most SOM consists of recalcitrant compounds to the view that it is a range of polymers continuously processed into smaller molecules by decomposer enzymes. The proposed C-STABILITY model combines compartmental and continuous modeling approaches to accurately reproduce SOM cycling processes, emphasizing the influence of substrate accessibility on SOM turnover. The model also considers enzymatic and microbial biotransformations of substrate, providing new insights on how depolymerization and decomposers ecology impact organic matter chemistry and amount during decomposition and at steady state.
