Estimation of SARS-CoV-2 Infection Fatality Rate by Real-time Antibody Screening of Blood Donors

Christian Erikstrup et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate previous SARS-CoV-2 infections and the population-based IFR through nationwide real-time seroprevalence surveying among Danish blood donors. The seroprevalence was found to be 1.9% and the estimated IFR in patients <70 years was 89 per 100,000 infections.

Nationwide seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and identification of risk factors in the general population of the Netherlands during the first epidemic wave

Eric R. A. Vos et al.

Summary: During the first epidemic wave, the overall seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in the Netherlands was estimated to be 2.8%, with the highest rates among 18-39 year-olds and the lowest among children aged 2-17. Those taking immunosuppressants and individuals from the Orthodox-Reformed Protestant community had higher odds of being seropositive. Anosmia/ageusia was the most discriminative symptom between seropositive and seronegative individuals.

Estimated SARS-CoV-2 Seroprevalence in the US as of September 2020

Kristina L. Bajema et al.

Summary: This cross-sectional study indicates that as of September 2020, most people in the US did not have serologic evidence of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, although the prevalence varied widely by jurisdiction. Seroprevalence surveys showed variations in infection rates between different sexes, age groups, and metropolitan/nonmetropolitan areas.

Comparison of 16 Serological SARS-CoV-2 Immunoassays in 16 Clinical Laboratories

Lene H. Harritshoj et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of 15 commercial and one in-house anti-SARS-CoV-2 assays in Danish laboratories. Most total antibody and IgG assays showed high sensitivity and specificity, with some overlap in confidence intervals. IgM results were more variable, with one assay demonstrating higher sensitivity and specificity.

Assessment of protection against reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 among 4 million PCR-tested individuals in Denmark in 2020: a population-level observational study

Christian Holm Hansen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the protection against SARS-CoV-2 reinfection, with results showing an 80.5% protection rate for individuals previously infected. Even in the population aged 65 years and older, the protection rate against reinfection reached 47.1%, with no significant differences observed by gender or time since infection.

Attack rates amongst household members of outpatients with confirmed COVID-19 in Bergen, Norway: A case-ascertained study

Kanika Kuwelker et al.

Summary: This study found that seropositivity provides more accurate household attack rates than RT-PCR, and children are equally susceptible to infection as young adults in households. Having fever or dyspnoea symptoms in index patients increased the risk of household transmission.
