Penicillin susceptibility among invasive MSSA infections: a multicentre study in 16 Spanish hospitals

Olouwafemi Mistourath Mama et al.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence of penicillin susceptibility among MSSA causing bloodstream infections in 16 Spanish hospitals and characterized the penicillin-susceptible MSSA (MSSA-PENS) isolates. The results showed a high penicillin susceptibility rate among MSSA, providing therapeutic opportunities for bloodstream infections. The emergence of new successful MSSA-PENS clones may be responsible for these data, and the detection of CC398 lineage or the absence of an IEC in some isolates raises questions about their potential animal origin.
