Cosmos sulphureus Cav. is more tolerant to lead than copper and chromium in hydroponics system

N. Aftab et al.

Summary: Heavy metals such as lead, copper, and chromium can have detrimental effects on plant growth and development. The ornamental plant Cosmos sulphureus Cav. showed varying levels of growth reduction in response to different concentrations of these metals in a hydroponics system. Lead was mainly accumulated in the roots of the plant, while copper and chromium were also mainly found in the roots at certain concentrations in the external solution. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind lead homeostasis in roots and the potential of Cosmos sulphureus Cav. as a lead hyperaccumulator.
