Characterisation of PM2.5 - bound PAHs in outdoor air of Karaj megacity: the effect of meteorological factors

Majid Kermani et al.

Summary: Urbanization and industrialization have led to increased particulate matter concentration in the air, with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) being important pollutants. A study in Iran's most industrial city found that the concentration of PM2.5 particles exceeded WHO and EPA guidelines, and PAHs were present throughout the city. Sources of PAHs included transport fleet, car fuel, diesel cars, and biomass and coal burning. Temperature and pressure showed a direct relationship with PAHs, while humidity and wind speed had a negative correlation. The estimated cancer risk in the studied region was deemed acceptable.

Health impacts and burden of disease attributed to long-term exposure to atmospheric PM10/PM2.5 in Karaj, Iran: effect of meteorological factors

Majid Kermani et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the health effects of long-term exposure to atmospheric PM10/PM2.5 on residents in Karaj city, Iran using the AirQ(+) model. The results showed correlations between PM10/PM2.5 levels and meteorological parameters, and estimated the burden of various health endpoints associated with PM10/PM2.5.

Summary: The study found no significant relationship between prenatal exposure to PAHs in pregnant women and newborn health indicators. There was a significant correlation between exposure to passive smoke and total PAHs concentrations, providing important insights for future research on PAH intake sources.

Airborne particulate matter in Tehran's ambient air

Javad Torkashvand et al.

Summary: In recent decades, particulate matter concentrations in Tehran have often exceeded the WHO guidelines, with annual average PM10 exceeding the limit and PM2.5 concentration surpassing the 24-hour guidance value for more than 50% of the days. Tehran experiences two seasonal PM peaks and two daily peaks, with factors such as traffic and boundary-layer height changes influencing the pollution levels. The indoor PM concentrations in Tehran are significantly higher than outdoor levels, making it crucial for decision makers to develop effective policies for air quality improvement.

Characterization, possible sources and health risk assessment of PM2.5-bound Heavy Metals in the most industrial city of Iran

Majid Kermani et al.

Summary: This study was conducted to examine the concentration of PM2.5-bound heavy metals in the air of Karaj, Iran, and assess the associated risks. The results showed a positive relationship between heavy metals and temperature, pressure, and wind speed, as well as a negative relationship with relative humidity.
