Decomposing scale and technique effects of financial development and foreign direct investment on renewable energy consumption

Muhammad Shahbaz et al.

Summary: This paper contributes to the literature by examining the effects of scale and technique on renewable energy consumption, taking into account foreign direct investment (FDI) and financial development. The empirical results show a positive correlation between financial development and renewable energy consumption, as well as a positive correlation between FDI and renewable energy demand. Composition effects have a negative impact on renewable energy consumption. Long-term estimation results indicate a U-shaped relationship between renewable energy-FDI and renewable energy-financial development associations.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive assessment of global energy poverty and reveals improvements over time, yet significant spatiotemporal variations across countries. Energy availability and affordability are major obstacles in alleviating energy poverty, which aligns with economic levels. Developed countries have lower energy poverty levels compared to developing countries, and the proposed integrated approach enhances the accuracy of energy poverty assessment to aid policymakers in crafting informed decisions and public policies.
