The determinants of environmental quality in the SAARC region: a spatial heterogeneous panel data approach

Khaizran Khalid et al.

Summary: Financial development has a weak impact on the environment in SAARC countries, with significant increases in pollution levels in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka but improved environmental quality in Nepal. Trade openness benefits environmental quality only in Nepal, while primary energy consumption increases the ecological footprint in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Conversely, renewable energy consumption improves environmental quality in all countries except Bangladesh.

Financial Instability and Consumption-based Carbon Emission in E-7 Countries: The Role of Trade and Economic Growth

Adnan Safi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the impact of financial instability, technological innovation, international trade, and economic growth on consumption-based carbon emission in Emerging Seven countries from 1995 to 2018. The results show that imports and economic growth increase carbon emission, while financial instability, technological innovation, and exports significantly reduce consumption-based carbon emission. Policymakers are advised to implement financial reforms that promote environmentally friendly technologies to reduce carbon emissions.

Does globalization matter for ecological footprint in Turkey? Evidence from dual adjustment approach

Dervis Kirikkaleli et al.

Summary: By using a dual adjustment approach, this study finds that globalization has a positive long-term impact on Turkey's ecological footprint, while trade openness reduces the footprint in the short term, and GDP growth negatively affects it in both the short and long term. The study suggests that policies should be implemented to encourage energy consumers to shift towards renewable energy and to diversify the overall energy mix towards renewable sources.

A Multivariate VAR Model for Evaluating Sustainable Finance and Natural Resource Curse in West Africa: Evidence from Nigeria and Ghana

Olatunji Abdul Shobande et al.

Summary: The study investigates the importance of sustainable finance for the natural resource curse in Nigeria and Ghana, confirming the existence of a financial resource curse in these countries. The findings highlight the critical role of sustainable financing in natural resource management, with the human development index identified as a key mediator in how sustainable finance impacts the natural resource curse. This study suggests the need for a vibrant and sustainable financing strategy to support domestic private investors in natural resource exploration and development, while also emphasizing the importance of a strong financial market for promoting effective natural resource management policies.

Dervis Kirikkaleli et al.

Summary: This study examines the long-term effects of financial development and renewable energy consumption on environmental sustainability within the global framework, finding that both factors have a significant positive impact on environmental sustainability in the long run, while economic growth may lead to increased carbon emissions globally. The study recommends that global policymakers consider the roles of renewable energy and financial development in order to improve environmental quality by implementing energy policy reforms in both developed and developing countries.

Modeling CO2 emissions in South Africa: empirical evidence from ARDL based bounds and wavelet coherence techniques

Tomiwa Sunday Adebayo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interconnection between financial development, real growth, urbanization, and CO2 emissions in South Africa. The findings suggest a positive impact of financial development on CO2 emissions, a negative relationship between urbanization and CO2 emissions, and a positive interaction between real growth and CO2 emissions. The results from the wavelet coherence approach support the ARDL long-term estimate and provide basis for recommendations.
