Prenatal methylmercury exposure and DNA methylation in seven-year-old children in the Seychelles Child Development Study

Andrea Cediel Ulloa et al.

Summary: The study assessed the association between prenatal MeHg exposure and DNA methylation of nervous system-related genes in children, finding higher prenatal MeHg exposure to be associated with increased DNA methylation at specific CpG sites.

In Utero Exposure to Heavy Metals and Trace Elements and Childhood Blood Pressure in a US Urban, Low-Income, Minority Birth Cohort

Mingyu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, maternal red blood cell concentrations of selenium and manganese were associated with lower systolic blood pressure in children aged 3 to 15 years. Additionally, the protective effect of manganese on child blood pressure was stronger among mothers with higher cadmium levels. Maternal smoking during pregnancy, a source of cadmium, modified the association between manganese and child blood pressure.

Prenatal methylmercury exposure is associated with decrease heart rate variability in children

Peggy Hiu Ying Chan et al.

Summary: This study found an association between prenatal MeHg exposure and cardiac autonomic function in children, resulting in reduced parasympathetic activity. Adjustment for recent fish consumption further strengthened the negative associations of MeHg.

Predicting molecular mechanisms, pathways, and health outcomes induced by Juul e-cigarette aerosol chemicals using the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database

Cynthia J. Grondin et al.

Summary: This study utilized the CTD database to analyze the potential health effects of chemicals found in Juul e-cigarette aerosols. Nicotine, particulate matter, and formaldehyde show the most significant associations with diseases, particularly in cardiovascular diseases, nervous system diseases, and respiratory tract diseases.
